FIELD Welder / Fabricator

Compensation: DOE, Starting at $24/hour
Job Description:
An experienced Welder/Fabricator supports our commercial/industrial grading operations by repairing, reinforcing, and fabricating components for large earthmoving equipment, including excavators, scrapers, dozers, etc. This role ensures heavy equipment remains structurally sound, safe, and operational in demanding field conditions.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Regular inspection of equipment, evaluate metal health and structural safety

Perform structural welding repairs on heavy equipment frames, bowls, cutting edges, push blocks, hitch assemblies, and related components

Perform MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Core (FCAW) welding on carbon steel, high-strength steel, and specialty alloys as required

Select appropriate welding processes based on material type, thickness, and repair specifications

Fabricate and modify steel parts based on blueprints, measurements, or field requirements

Rebuild worn components using hard-facing and reinforcement techniques

Conduct crack repairs, gouging (air arc), grinding, beveling, and proper metal preparation

Maintain proper weld quality, penetration, and structural integrity in all positions (flat, vertical, overhead)

Work closely with mechanics and operators to diagnose structural failures

Maintain welding tools, leads, shielding gas systems, and safety equipment

Follow all company and job site safety procedures
Qualifications & Skills:

3+ years of heavy equipment welding experience (earthmoving or mining equipment preferred)

Proficiency in stick and flux-core welding; ability to weld thick structural steel in all positions

Experience working on large scrapers, dozers, or similar heavy construction equipment

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and repair schematics

Strong understanding of metallurgy and structural integrity principles

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions

AWS certification

Experience with line boring or fabrication layout

Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred)
Work Environment:
-
Primarily field-based commercial grading job sites and indoor/outdoor mechanic shop environments

Exposure to extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, welding fumes, and high noise levels

Regular exposure to sparks, moving mechanical parts, pressurized systems, and heavy equipment

Work may require extended hours, overtime, and weekend work based on project demands
Physical Demands & Requirements:

Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift more with assistance

Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and crawling

Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces

Frequent use of hands and arms for handling tools and welding equipment

Ability to maintain welding positions (including overhead and vertical) for extended periods
-
Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) to inspect weld quality and read measurements
-
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding hood, respirator (if required), gloves, and protective clothing
Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage based on experience, with overtime opportunities and benefits package.
This position plays a critical role in keeping high-production grading equipment operational and minimizing downtime on large-scale earthmoving projects.
