Safety Coordinator

Job Description:
Earth Basics has been a trusted name in high-quality civil construction and earth-moving services for over 30 years. As we grow, we are working to hire a Safety Coordinator to support and elevate safety practices across job sites and shops. This is a high-ownership role reporting to leadership and working closely with site supervisors and field teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
Field & Shop Safety Oversight:

Conduct regular safety observations and documented job site inspections across active projects and shop facilities

Identify, track, and communicate hazards; follow up on mitigation and verification
-
Prepare and distribute safety supplies inventory (hard hats, vests, etc.) to field personnel

Inspect fire extinguishers and restock first aid kits, PPE, Hydration annually or as needed
-
Support supervisors and leadership in holding teams accountable to safety protocols
Incident Response & Reporting
-
Assist with reporting and investigating workplace incidents and near misses
-
Conduct root cause analyses and track corrective actions
-
Report project hours and incidents for specific accounts as required

Assist with workers compensation and general liability claims, near misses, loss of hours, etc.
Training & Engagement
-
Organize and deliver weekly toolbox talks
-
Lead, coordinate, and schedule First Aid/CPR, driver, and OSHA training as needed
-
Lead, coordinate and track all safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, equipment-specific training)
-
Participate in captive insurance webinars and safety education opportunities
-
Ensure new hires complete onboarding safety orientations

Develop and lead Safety Training for specific roles: Mechanics, Oilers, Laborers, Operators, GC’s, etc.
Program & Compliance Management

Maintain current SDS documents and ensure field access
-
Prepare and update job-specific Site Safety Plans (SSPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)

Support annual review and update of company-wide safety documentation
-
Annually manage OSHA 300/300A log submissions and maintain compliance with federal/state laws in CA and TX
-
Ensure Avetta and similar contractor compliance portals are up to date with insurance, safety docs, and training records

Update company’s IIPP & Heat Illness documents

Champion company-wide Safety Week initiatives

Perform/Conduct Fleet Safety Driven Awards
Qualifications:
-
3+ years in a safety coordination or related role, preferably in heavy civil, grading, or equipment-based construction
-
Working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and Texas safety requirements
-
Hands-on experience with job site inspections, training coordination, and safety documentation
-
Comfortable navigating platforms and systems (like Avetta) confidently, or able to learn quickly OSHA 10 or 30 required.

CHST or additional safety credentials are a plus.

Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites regularly (CA and TX) & Captive Board Meetings

Work Environment:

Split between field job site visits, shop and office-based administrative duties

May involve outdoor work in varying weather conditions and exposure to heavy equipment environments
