Junior Estimator Position

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator to join our commercial and industrial grading team. This position plays a critical support role in the preconstruction process by assisting the project executive manager and project manager in preparing competitive, accurate bids for earthwork, site development, and heavy civil projects. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and eager to grow within the construction industry, with a strong interest in grading, excavation, and industrial sitework operations.

 

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Bid & Preconstruction Support

  • Maintain and update the project bid list and track all active bid opportunities.

  • Download, organize, and distribute project plans and specifications to internal teams.

  • Track drawing revisions and addenda to ensure estimates reflect the most current information.

  • Maintain accurate bid logs and historical bid records for future reference.

  • Assist in preparing cost estimates for commercial and industrial grading projects.

  • Enter quantity takeoffs, subcontractor quotes, and vendor pricing into estimate templates.

  • Gather and coordinate subcontractor, vendor, and material quotations.

  • Assist in proposal preparation and bid submission processes.

Plan Review & Scope Analysis

  • Read and interpret civil drawings and technical specifications

  • Develop a clear understanding of project scope of work.

  • Identify unclear or missing information and assist in preparing and submitting RFIs (Requests for Information).

  • Support value engineering efforts by identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Support Project Executive Managers and Project Managers throughout the bidding and preconstruction process.

  • Communicate with field personnel to understand production rates, equipment capabilities, and construction methods.

  • Attend weekly estimator meetings and participate in pre-bid meetings.

  • Communicate professionally with clients regarding project scope, schedule, and clarifications.

  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.

  • Maintain and update vendor and subcontractor contact lists.

  • Assist in identifying and tracking potential new client opportunities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent industry experience).

  • 0–3 years of construction estimating or field experience (internships acceptable).

  • Basic understanding of commercial and industrial grading, sitework, and earthwork operations preferred.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general estimating software; ability to learn industry-specific tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze plans and specifications with attention to detail.

  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and grow within the heavy civil construction industry.

 

Work Environment:
This position operates primarily in a professional office environment. The role involves working at a computer workstation for extended periods while analyzing data, The work environment is generally quiet, climate-controlled, and free from significant physical hazards. The position may require collaboration with cross-functional teams, either in person or through virtual communication platforms. Deadlines and project timelines may occasionally require sustained focus and prioritization of multiple tasks.

Physical Demands:

This position primarily involves sedentary work in an office. The employee is required to sit for extended periods while working at a computer workstation. Frequent use of a computer, including typing and operating a mouse, is required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items up to 20 pounds, such as equipment, files, or office supplies.

 

Compensation:
