Inventory Control Specialist

Compensation: DOE, starting at $25/hour
Job Description:
We are looking for an Inventory Control Specialist to support the mechanical team by ensuring availability and organization of our mechanic shop’s inventory. The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for full cycle inventory (assist in ordering, allocation, warranty/rebates, credits, cost control/spending), organization and utilization for shop and field mechanics. This role ensures timely and accurate distribution of parts and fluids, and maintenance of optimal inventory levels.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:

Assist in developing and maintaining inventory processes and procedures.

Improve organization and warehouse efficiency

Standardize inventory organization, safe storage, and labeling of parts, tools, materials, consumables, and equipment components

Monitor and track quantities, usage trends, and order to maintain optimal inventory
-
Investigate and rectify discrepancies, shortages, overages, and missing inventory
-
Perform cycle counts and a full monthly inventory audit
-
Reduce waste, loss, and duplicate purchasing
-
Support continuous improvement initiatives
Procurement & Vendor Coordination:
-
Assist with ordering parts, tools, fluids and shop supplies from approved vendors and suppliers.

Purchase order tracking
-
Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, and delivery timelines
-
Maintain vendor relationships and vendor databases
-
Compare pricing and availability
-
Ensure timely receipt and documentation of materials
Parts Distribution:
-
Coordinate with mechanics, field teams, dispatch, and operations regarding parts needs
-
Receive parts requests from mechanics and accurately pull required items from inventory
-
Provide parts directly to shop mechanics or coordinate with parts runners for field delivery

Ensure critical equipment parts are available to minimize downtime

Support maintenance scheduling through parts readiness

Assist with emergency part sourcing for field breakdowns

Track warranties, cores, and returns
Data Analysis & Reporting

Analyze inventory trends, usage rates, and purchasing patterns

Monitor high-cost and high-usage items
-
Identify opportunities for cost savings and inventory optimization

Create reports for management regarding:

inventory valuation

usage trends

shortages
-
purchasing efficiency

Maintain inventory data within inventory management systems

Improve digital tracking and inventory visibility

Assist with software implementations and process automation

Support theft prevention and inventory accountability measures
Cleanliness & Organization:

Keep the inventory and shop well-organized, and clearly labeled

Ensure proper storage and handling of all inventory items
-
Continuously improve layout and processes for efficiency
Qualifications & Skills:
-
3+ years in inventory management and parts coordination in a mechanical shop environment preferred
-
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-
Tech savvy - computer skills and experience with inventory and project management systems
-
Ability to lift and move parts and supplies up to 50 lbs.

Good communication and teamwork skills

Mechanical knowledge or familiarity with parts

Reliability and accountability

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment:
-
Work is completed on the computer in a Mechanic Shop
-
Mechanical shop environment may include exposure to fumes, oils, grease, solvents, and loud machinery.
-
Regular exposure to vibration from tools and equipment.
-
Work is performed around heavy machinery with moving mechanical parts.
-
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and high-visibility apparel.
Physical Demands & Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined or elevated spaces for extended periods.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.

Manual dexterity to handle parts, tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding equipment.

Ability to climb ladders and access heavy equipment components at various heights.
-
Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone or radio in high-noise environments.
Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage based on experience, with overtime opportunities and benefits package.
This position plays a critical role in keeping high-production grading equipment operational and minimizing downtime on large-scale earthmoving projects.
