Grade Checker / Surveyor
Employment Location: Grand Prairie, Texas (throughout DFW and surrounding areas)

Compensation: DOE, starting at $28/hour
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Grade Checker (surveyor) who is responsible for providing accurate and reliable field surveying support for earthwork, grading, site development, and construction layout. This position performs site calibrations, benchmark leveling, rough staking, and on-foot topographic surveys while ensuring all work meets project specifications and quality standards. We utilize Trimble SCS900 and Siteworks systems to manage machine-control files and support accurate construction operations. The role works closely with project managers, superintendents, equipment operators, and field crews to maintain alignment, elevations, and project accuracy.
Essential Job Functions & Key Responsibilities:

Check grades, elevations, slopes, and subgrades for mass excavation, pads, roads, utilities, and other earthwork operations

Assist equipment operators by providing accurate grade information and identifying areas requiring correction

Use grade rods, lasers, GPS/GNSS rovers, and other surveying equipment to verify elevations and grades

Interpret construction plans, specifications, cut/fill requirements, and grading plans

Perform on-foot topographic checks and collect field data to verify existing and finished conditions

Operate Trimble GPS/GNSS rover equipment and related grade-control technology.

Utilize Trimble SCS900 and Siteworks to verify grades, elevations, and machine-control data

Troubleshoot basic GPS, machine-control, and grade-checking issues in the field.

Maintain organized records of grade checks, elevations, control points, field measurements, and topographic information.

Assist with or perform site mapping using Propeller, AeroPoints, and similar drone/topographic technologies.
Qualifications & Skills:
-
3+ years of professional experience as a Grade Checker / Surveyor

Proficiency with Trimble SCS900 and Siteworks systems

Demonstrated expertise in site calibration procedures

Experience performing site benchmark leveling using an automatic/eye level instrument

Skilled in rough staking for grading and layout.

Ability to perform topographic surveys on foot

Desired, able to train others on Propeller/AeroPoints or similar drone topo tools.

Basic understanding of Trimble Business Center, including setup of machine control files (GCS900 and Siteworks).

Background in earthwork, grading, or heavy civil construction.

Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multiple field teams

Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently outdoors
Physical Demands & Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Walk across uneven terrain and active construction sites

Stand, bend, and move for extended periods

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
Work Environment:

Exposure to active commercial and industrial construction sites with moving equipment, uneven terrain, dust, mud, noise, and varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain).

Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and high-visibility apparel.
Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage based on experience, with overtime opportunities and benefits package, paid weekly.
