623 / 657 Scraper Operator

Job Location: Grand Prairie, Texas (Projects throughout DFW and surrounding areas)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Compensation: DOE, Starting at $26/hour

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and dependable 623/657 Scraper Operator to join our commercial and industrial grading team. This role is responsible for operating Caterpillar 623 and 657 scrapers safely and efficiently on large-scale earthwork and site development projects.

The ideal candidate has strong finish grading skills, understands production goals, and takes pride in maintaining equipment and delivering high-quality work. Candidates must be willing to travel to various job sites throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

 

Essential Job Functions & Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate 623 and/or 657 scrapers in mass excavation and grading operations

  • Perform rough and finish grading to meet project specifications and tolerances

  • Maintain proper blade control and understand grade stakes, GPS systems, and site plans

  • Work closely with grade checkers, dozer operators, and foremen/superintendent to maintain production targets

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections

  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and report mechanical issues promptly

  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations

  • Maintain consistent productivity while ensuring safe job-site practices

 

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience operating 623 and/or 657 scrapers 

  • Strong understanding of grading, earthwork operations, and blade control

  • Ability to read grade stakes and understand site elevations

  • Knowledge of basic heavy equipment maintenance

  • Strong work ethic and reliability

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a crew

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

 

Physical Demands & Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Walk across uneven terrain and active construction sites

  • Climb on and off heavy equipment multiple times per day

  • Stand, bend, and move for extended periods

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed

 

Work Environment:

  • Exposure to active commercial and industrial construction sites with moving equipment, uneven terrain, dust, mud, noise, and varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain).

  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and high-visibility apparel.

 

Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage based on experience, with overtime opportunities and benefits package paid weekly.

This position plays a critical role in keeping high-production grading equipment operational and minimizing downtime on large-scale earthmoving projects.
